  • New Nature Writing Competition First Place

I was delighted to have won first place in the New Nature Writing competition, with my short story ‘The Buzzards Meadow’. The piece of writing was inspired by my own walks in Gloucester’s Alney Nature Reserve. The purpose of the competition was to write about a ‘special place’, so I decided to write about a location where despite the overspill of human life, wildlife still thrives.

  • Birdwatching Under Lockdown The Falmouth Anchor

When the country was locked down as a result of Covid-19, a lot more focus was put onto nature. The lack of cars on the streets and air traffic led to the conclusion that the limiting of human activities was in fact beneficial to our environment. As our worlds became smaller, more focus was put on wildlife in local areas. I wanted to write an article which could inspire and advise people (mainly students) on how to watch birds in their own localities, regardless of whether they lived in a countryside cottage or a city tower block.

You can read the article here – http://www.falmouth-anchor.co.uk/2020/05/10/birdwatching-under-lockdown/
